Merrick County Deputies Respond to Two-Vehicle Crash in Hastings

Merrick County Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 30 and Second Road in Hastings, Nebraska. The accident involved a Ford F150 driven by John Groves and a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica with several occupants inside.

According to officials, Groves was driving southbound on Second Road at a high speed when he failed to slow down for the railroad tracks and yield to the stop sign. He collided with the westbound Chrysler Pacifica on Highway 30.

Groves was arrested and charged with multiple offenses including driving under the influence, willful reckless driving, open alcohol containers, seat belt violation and stop sign violation. He was transported to Merrick County Corrections following his arrest.

One passenger from the Chrysler Pacifica sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a medical facility for treatment. Grand Island Rural Fire and Rescue Department as well as Hall County Sheriff's office assisted with the incident.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work towards determining all factors that contributed towards this accident.
