A two-vehicle crash shut down Kent Street in Portland for several hours. The driver of the first vehicle was ejected and remains in critical condition, while the driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries. The crash is under investigation.
A two-vehicle crash in Portland, Michigan caused the closure of Kent Street for several hours on Wednesday. According to authorities, multiple 911 calls were made reporting a blue car driving recklessly just outside of Portland. The car had allegedly struck a guardrail and a local business before being spotted by an officer in Downtown Portland.
The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle chose to flee instead. Due to the presence of pedestrians and heavy traffic in the area, the officer decided not to pursue the car. Shortly after evading police, the reckless driver collided with another vehicle on Kent Street between Island and Virginia streets. The impact caused their car to roll over, ejecting them from the vehicle.
Emergency services arrived at the scene promptly and provided medical aid to the ejected driver before transporting them to a nearby hospital. As of now, they remain in critical condition. Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported for the driver of the second vehicle involved in this incident.
Authorities are currently investigating all aspects surrounding this crash as they work towards determining its cause.
