Arrested and charged with DUI, Open Container, and Reckless Driving
At approximately 11:15 a.m. on July 13, the Scottsbluff Police Department received a dispatch regarding a two-vehicle accident with injuries on South Beltline Highway West near the Main Street Market West driveway. The incident involved a 1992 Ford Bronco driven by Hunter Childers, a 22-year-old resident of Scottsbluff, and a 2023 Chevy Silverado pickup truck driven by Kory Knoles, also 22 years old but from Broomfield, Colorado.
According to the investigation conducted by authorities, both vehicles were traveling eastbound in the vicinity of the 400 block of South Beltline Highway West at the time of the collision. Both vehicles were occupying the inside lane when suddenly, without warning or indication, Childers' Bronco abruptly changed lanes to overtake Knoles' Silverado. This sudden maneuver caused Childers to lose control of his vehicle and collide with the south curb.
The impact didn't end there; as a result of crossing over into oncoming traffic after hitting the curb, Childers' Bronco struck the passenger side of Knoles' Silverado. Following this second collision, Childers once again veered towards the south but overcorrected his steering input. Consequently, his vehicle rolled onto its driver's side before finally coming to rest.
Emergency services swiftly responded to assist those involved in this unfortunate incident. Two passengers who had been riding in Knoles' pickup truck sustained minor injuries and were transported by a family member to Regional West Medical Center for treatment. The Scottsbluff Fire Department and Valley Ambulance also arrived at the scene to provide additional aid.
In light of their findings during their investigation into this accident sequence, law enforcement officers proceeded to arrest Hunter Childers on multiple charges related to impaired driving and reckless behavior. Childers now faces charges of Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Open Container violation, and Reckless Driving.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving practices and the potential consequences that can arise from reckless behavior behind the wheel. Authorities continue to urge all motorists to prioritize safety on the roads by obeying traffic laws, refraining from impaired driving, and remaining vigilant at all times.
