Driver of U-Haul truck detained after crashing into security barriers near White House

The U.S. Secret Service detained a driver of a U-Haul truck after the vehicle crashed into security barriers near the White House on Monday night, according to an official statement released by Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the Secret Service. The incident occurred at around 10 p.m. on the north side of Lafayette Square at 16th Street.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among any Secret Service or White House personnel as a result of this crash. However, in an update early Tuesday morning, Guglielmi stated that preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have intentionally struck the security barriers.
Despite initial concerns about potential explosives within the truck, police later confirmed that it was safe and secure.
According to Guglielmi's statement, charges will be filed against the driver by the U.S. Park Police for their involvement in this alarming incident near one of America's most iconic landmarks.
