Vehicle Crash Shuts Down Interstate-81 in Syracuse

Lanes reopened at 2:20 p.m.

The southbound lanes of Interstate-81 in Syracuse have been reopened after being shut down for several hours due to a vehicle crash near I-690. The incident occurred shortly before noon on Sunday.

According to the New York state traffic alert system, there were initial concerns that the highway could remain closed until nearly 6 p.m. However, authorities managed to clear the scene and reopen the lanes earlier than expected at 2:20 p.m.

At this time, police have not released any details regarding the accident which took place around 11:55 a.m. It is unclear how many vehicles were involved or if there were any injuries sustained as a result of the crash.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving through this area as residual delays may still be present following the reopening of the southbound lanes on Interstate-81.
