Vehicle Crashes into School Bus in Obetz, Ohio

One person hospitalized in critical condition
In a terrifying incident early Friday morning southeast of Columbus, a vehicle collided with a school bus and subsequently caught fire. One person was hospitalized as a result.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office (FCSO), the accident took place at the intersection of Alum Creek Drive and Groveport Road in Obetz, just south of Interstate 270. At approximately 6:45 a.m., a mini van crashed into the rear end of a Groveport Madison school bus.
The FCSO reported that the school bus, identified as a 2005 International Groveport Madison School bus, was stationary at an intersection traffic signal facing southbound on Alum Creek Drive when it was struck by a white Dodge Caravan from behind. Fortunately, all five students and two adults on board were able to exit safely without any injuries.
However, the driver of the car suffered critical injuries and had to be transported to Grant Medical Center for treatment. The specific nature of their injuries has not been disclosed. Remarkably though, an Army National Guard serviceman came to their aid by pulling them out of their burning vehicle before emergency services arrived.
As investigations continue into this incident by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office Crash Investigation Unit, they are urging anyone with additional information about what transpired to come forward. They can contact the Sheriff's Office directly at 614-525-6113.
Due to this accident and subsequent fire response efforts, Alum Creek Drive remained closed in both directions until just after 10:00 am local time. However, it is now open again for regular traffic flow.
This collision serves as another reminder of the importance of cautious driving and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles on the road.
