Vehicular Homicide by Recklessness Charge in Fatal Nashville Crash Involving Elijah Whittington

Madison Ray, a 25-year-old woman, has been charged with multiple offenses including vehicular homicide by recklessness, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, failure to render aid, aggravated child endangerment, and driving on a revoked license. The charges come after a collision that occurred earlier today on N Gallatin Pike at Conference Drive, which resulted in the death of 20-year-old motorcyclist, Elijah Whittington.
According to the preliminary investigation, Ray was driving a Honda Accord north on Gallatin Pike when she drove around motorists who were waiting in the left turn lane to drive onto Conference Drive. Witnesses reported that once Ray had passed the vehicles, she turned left into the path of Whittington, who was riding his motorcycle southbound on Gallatin Pike. Whittington was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he later died.
Immediately after the collision, Ray grabbed her 2-year-old child from the backseat and fled on foot. Responding officers located her at a nearby store and took her into custody. Ray was treated for minor injuries, while her child was unharmed.
There was no evidence of impairment on the part of Ray, who stated that she left the scene because she was unlicensed. She has been charged with multiple offenses and is currently in custody.
