Water Vacuum Tanker Truck Crashes into Wire on Long Island Expressway in Upton

A water vacuum tanker truck crashed into the wire and went through all eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway in Upton on Thursday afternoon, according to Suffolk police. The incident occurred at around 1:40 p.m. when the driver had been in the center lane of the LIE near Exit 68.
Police reported that the front left tire failed causing the truck to veer into the left lane, cross over to median, crash into a wire before going through all eastbound lanes and riding on its shoulder for a short distance before coming to a stop.
Fortunately, no other vehicles were struck during this accident and there were no injuries reported by police. However, due to this incident, both right and center lanes at Exit 68 have been closed since 2 p.m.
Further details about what caused this accident are yet unknown but authorities are investigating it thoroughly.
