A tragic accident occurred on Monday night in La Marque, Texas when a car fell off a bridge on I-45. The incident resulted in the death of a 26-year-old woman and left four others critically injured, including two 3-year-olds and two 6-year-olds.

According to officials with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, the driver of the vehicle was speeding on the highway before losing control of her 2005 Ford Escape. She hit a wall and flipped multiple times before crashing over a railing and landing on the roadway below.

The woman died at the scene of the crash while emergency services rushed all four children to an area hospital where they remain in critical condition. It is unclear whether seatbelts were worn or if any of them were in their car seats during this time.

Upon investigation, authorities found two car seats inside SUV but no other vehicles involved in this fatal accident. An ongoing investigation by authorities with Galveston County Sheriff’s Office aims to determine what caused this tragedy.
