Woman Dies After Being Struck by New Britain Police Officer

A woman tragically lost her life after being struck by a New Britain police officer on Thursday morning, according to state police. The incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. when the woman was attempting to cross West Main Street in New Britain and was hit by a 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility driven by Officer Connor Reinsch.

The identity of the victim has not been released as authorities are still in the process of notifying her family. The Eastern District Major Crimes Division is currently working on identifying her, while also conducting an investigation into the incident.

In response to this tragic event, Officer Reinsch will be placed on restricted duty and will not be able to work until the investigation concludes. Both Connecticut State Police and Waterbury State's Attorney's Office are involved in conducting the investigation at the request of New Britain State's Attorney's Office.

New Britain Police Chief Matthew Marino expressed his department's cooperation with all law enforcement agencies overseeing this case. He stated, "The New Britain Police Department has and will continue cooperating with all law enforcement officials overseeing the investigation into this accident."

Once the state attorney's investigation is complete, there will be a full administrative review conducted by the New Britain Police Department’s Professional Standards Division regarding this incident. Chief Marino extended his condolences to those affected by saying, "These are unfortunate circumstances, and on behalf of the New Britain Police Department, I offer my sincere condolences to all family and friends impacted."
