Mary Port Hit and Killed by SUV at Sheetz in South Abington Township

A woman was hit and killed by an SUV at a Sheetz parking lot in South Abington Township, Lackawanna County on Thursday evening. The victim has been identified as Mary Port, 76, of Clarks Summit. Lackawanna County Deputy Coroner Louis Stefanelli confirmed that she died from injuries sustained after being struck by the vehicle.
According to South Abington Township Patrolman Scott Siegler, the incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. when the victim was walking out of the convenience store and a driver ran over her while pulling away from the gas pump without seeing her.
The police are still investigating the accident but have stated that they do not anticipate filing charges against the driver at this time.
