A fatal car accident occurred on Friday morning in Lincoln County, North Carolina. According to investigators, a 1997 Ford Mustang driven by Misty Lovelace Palmer, 47, of Newton was traveling north on Highway 274 when it drove off the right side of the road and then back onto the roadway before crossing the center line and hitting a tree. The incident took place around 10 a.m. near Flay Road close to Cherryville.

Palmer died at the scene due to not wearing her seatbelt during the crash. Troopers have stated that excessive speed led to this tragic event.

Highway 274 was closed for two hours while troopers investigated.
