Woman Killed in Two-Car Crash in Irvine

A woman has lost her life in a tragic two-car crash that took place on Saturday evening in Irvine. According to the Irvine police, the accident occurred at 5:51 p.m. on Irvine Boulevard, east of Sand Canyon Avenue.
Sgt. Karie Davies from the Irvine Police Department stated that "When officers arrived on scene, a white BMW 430i and a gold Lexus RX300 were involved in a broadside collision." The BMW had four passengers along with its driver while only one person was driving the Lexus.
The victim who passed away was identified as a 47-year-old woman seated in the rear passenger area of the BMW. She was immediately taken to hospital but unfortunately could not be saved.
Two other passengers from the same vehicle were also injured and transported to hospitals for treatment; however, their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Davies confirmed that "Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to factor into this accident," and added that "the Lexus driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators."
The Major Accident Investigation Team is currently investigating this incident further, and anyone with information related to it is requested by authorities to contact Detective Joshua Balos at 949-724-7024.
As part of their investigation process, officials closed down Irvine Boulevard starting from Sand Canyon Avenue along with southbound on-ramp towards 133 Freeway which leads onto Laguna Canyon Road.
