Virginia State Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Accident
On Tuesday, June 6th, a pedestrian was hit by a car and killed in Shenandoah County. The Virginia State Police are investigating the incident that occurred around 10:30 am on Old Valley Pike just north of Chapman Landing Road.
The victim has been identified as Ramon L. Santiago Rivera, a 74-year-old resident of Edinburg, Virginia. According to police reports, he was walking northbound with his bicycle in the far-right travel lane when he was struck from behind by a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by Deborah A. McCormick.
Rivera died at the scene due to his injuries while McCormick remained uninjured and wearing her seatbelt during the accident. She has since been charged with reckless driving.
The investigation into this fatal pedestrian accident is ongoing as authorities work to determine what led up to the collision between Rivera and McCormick's vehicle on Old Valley Pike.
