Chase and Crash Causes Major Delays in Raleigh

A high-speed chase that began on Interstate 440 ended with a crash at the intersection of Capital Boulevard on Thursday afternoon, causing major delays. According to law enforcement officials who spoke to CBS 17, the driver was going over 100 miles per hour on the roadway and was driving a car stolen from Johnston County.
The driver is now in custody following a brief foot chase after crashing into six cars, including three in an intersection and another three in a parking lot. A beige sedan at the scene had its back end smashed in. Multiple EMS, highway patrol officers, and members of the Raleigh Police Department were also present.
CBS 17 crews reported seeing crime scene tape go up around Brentwood Road and Capital Boulevard at approximately 2:40 p.m., while traffic backed up for about two miles as of 3 p.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
As of 4:45 p.m., lanes are reopening with only one right turn lane closed on southbound Capital Boulevard.
