Michael McKinney Jr. died at a local hospital after the crash. The passenger's condition was not released. The driver of the box truck was not injured.
Officials Release Name of Driver Killed in Weekend Crash
The Laurens County Sheriff's Office has identified the driver who died over the weekend as a result of a crash with a box truck. Michael McKinney Jr., 62, from Gray Court, was pronounced dead at a local hospital after the accident occurred on Saturday afternoon.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers, the collision happened around 4 p.m. on South Frontage Road near Gnatt Trail in Fountain Inn. A 2006 Freightliner box truck was attempting to turn into a private drive when it collided with McKinney's 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
While the passenger on the motorcycle was also taken to hospital, their condition remains unknown at this time. The driver of the box truck reportedly did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
