Police Investigate Fatal Crash Involving Dump Truck and Pickup Truck in Sayreville
Authorities are currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred early Thursday morning in Sayreville, New Jersey. According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, a 59-year-old man from Linden lost his life when a dump truck veered off the road and collided with his pickup truck on southbound Route 9.
The victim has been identified as Renan Perez, who was turning his Ford Ranger into a gas station at the time of the crash. Despite being rushed to the hospital for medical attention, Perez sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Law enforcement responded to reports of the collision around 5:16 a.m. The accident took place near Exxon at 912 Route 9 southbound and involved a 2020 Kenworth dump truck and a 2000 Ford Ranger. Initial investigations suggest that as Perez was making a right turn into the gas station, his pickup truck was struck on its passenger side door by the dump truck.
Further examination indicates that after colliding with Perez's vehicle, the dump truck left the roadway and drove onto grass before hitting the Ford Ranger while it was positioned on the driveway apron of the gas station. The impact caused significant damage not only to both vehicles but also to parts of the gas station itself.
