61-year-old Nabil Haikal killed in I-71 accident

One person dead, another injured
A fatal accident occurred on I-71 early Friday morning, sending one person to the hospital.
Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call for an accident on I-71 northbound at Bagley Road at 1:55 a.m. Troopers confirmed that Nabil Haikal, 61 years old, had pulled over to the right shoulder of I-71 around 1:48 a.m., and was standing outside his car when he was struck by a man driving a 2020 Honda Civic along with the driver's side door.
Haikal was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the Honda Civic sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by EMS to Southwest General Hospital. Middleburgh Heights police, fire and EMS assisted in handling this incident.
The crash is currently under investigation as troopers suspect impairment; charges are pending. All northbound traffic has reopened as of 6 a.m.
