Thomas Brennecke Killed in Collision on I-44 in St. Louis County

one dead, one seriously injured
A fatal collision occurred on Interstate 44 in south St. Louis County, leaving one man dead and another seriously injured. The crash happened just after 5:10 p.m. Saturday on westbound I-44, just east of South Lindbergh Boulevard.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Ford F550 had been parked and abandoned on the westbound shoulder with part of the vehicle left in the roadway, partially blocking lane 4. Two men were traveling westbound in lane 4 in a 1999 Ford Contour when they slammed into the rear of the F550.
The passenger of the Contour was pronounced dead at the scene before emergency responders arrived. He was identified as Thomas Brennecke from Ballwin and was only 31 years old. The driver of the Contour, a Kirkwood resident aged thirty years old sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Members of Crestwood Fire Protection District responded to this incident immediately upon receiving reports about it.
State troopers reported that neither man wore their seat belt at that time which could have prevented severe injuries or death during such an accident.
This is an ongoing investigation by authorities who are trying to determine what led up to this tragic event that claimed one life while causing significant harm to another person involved in this incident.
