One fatality, four injuries

The Corvallis Police Department has reported a tragic three-car crash on Highway 99W in North Corvallis, resulting in one fatality and four injuries. The incident occurred around 5:38 p.m., prompting the immediate response of Corvallis Police and Fire.

According to authorities, the collision took place north of the intersection of Highway 99W and NW Elks Ave in Corvallis. After conducting an investigation, it was determined that a Subaru Legacy had crossed the center lane, leading to a head-on crash with a Hyundai Elantra.

Tragically, the driver of the Subaru Legacy, identified as a 74-year-old woman from Monmouth, did not survive the accident. She was promptly transported by medics for medical attention. In addition to her unfortunate passing, four individuals were injured inside the Hyundai Elantra.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra is a 32-year-old woman from Albany who also required medical transportation for treatment. Amongst her passengers were another Albany resident aged 37 and a juvenile; both were taken by medics for care as well. Sadly, a 65-year-old Prineville woman who was also traveling in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fortunately, there was minimal damage sustained by a third vehicle involved in this incident. Both its driver and passenger emerged unharmed from this harrowing ordeal.

Due to extensive investigations conducted by the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), which lasted approximately four-and-a-half hours, Highway 99W had to be temporarily closed off during this period.

Both the Corvallis Police Department and Benton County Sheriff's Office MAIT responded promptly to assess and investigate this devastating crash further. All parties involved have been cooperative thus far as authorities continue their ongoing investigation into determining all factors contributing to this tragic event.
