Iowa National Guard Soldier Corey Hite Dies After Being Hit by Car in Iowa City

An Iowa National Guard soldier has passed away after being hit by a car on May 22nd in Iowa City. According to a Caring Bridge page, SFC Corey Hite suffered life-threatening injuries, including brain swelling, multiple skull fractures, a broken pelvis and holes in his lung and kidney. The GoFundMe for his family stated that he was three weeks from retirement when the crash happened.
The Iowa National Guard confirmed the news of Hite's passing. "It is with great sadness that we confirm the loss of our Soldier," said Col. Michael Wunn, commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time."
Iowa City police have not yet confirmed Hite’s identity nor issued any official statement regarding the accident which took place at Melrose Ave and Kennedy Parkway just west of Iowa City West High School around 4:00 pm on May 22nd.
The driver involved in the incident did not sustain any injuries as per reports from authorities.
Hite's death is mourned by many who knew him personally or through social media platforms where condolences poured out for him and his family members who are left behind to grieve their loss.
