Liverpool man Robert Norton arrested after car chase and crashes in Sullivan

Norton was charged with multiple offenses and scheduled to appear in Sullivan Town Court on July 25 at 1 p.m.
A Liverpool native, Robert Norton, was arrested by the New York State Police after a car chase on State Route 31. The police were first dispatched to Norton at 9:01 a.m. on June 21st when he crashed his black Toyota Camry in the parking lot of Tecforce Automotive at 623 State Route 31 in the town of Sullivan.
After crashing his vehicle, Norton exited and committed multiple acts of public lewdness along with criminal mischief to other vehicles in the lot. As soon as the state police arrived on scene, Norton fled eastbound in his car on Route 31.
The troopers pursued him and he tried to enter into westbound lane of Route 31 where he collided with an uninvolved vehicle before losing control and crashing into a pole near 2597 State Route 31 which disabled his vehicle.
As they attempted to take him into custody, Norton resisted arrest and was tased by Madison County Sherriff’s deputies. He suffered apparent facial, shoulder and knee abrasions for which paramedics were called to evaluate him.
Norton has been charged with committing multiple acts of public lewdness along with criminal mischief towards other vehicles; reckless endangerment; unlawfully fleeing from a police officer; resisting arrest; driving while ability impaired by drugs; aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle (multiple suspensions); speeding over posted limit (86 mph) among others charges.
He is scheduled to appear in Sullivan Town Court on July 25th at one o'clock p.m.
