minor injuries, arrested for drug possession

A 30-year-old man crashed his pickup truck while trying to light his marijuana in southeast Kansas on "Weed Day." The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, on U.S. 54 between Gas and Iola in Allen County.

According to the Allen County Kansas Sheriff's Office, the man was on his way home from work, driving with his knees and attempting to light some pot when he lost control. The truck crossed over three lanes, went into the ditch, and was stopped by a cement culvert, a large fence corner-post, a telephone junction box, and a utility pole.

"Somehow, he escaped hitting any vehicles," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post. "Not wearing a seat belt he was tossed around inside the cab and received minor injuries."

The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana, meth, and drug paraphernalia. The sheriff's office did not release his name.

The incident occurred on "Weed Day," a day celebrated by marijuana enthusiasts around the world. The date, April 20, or 4/20, has become a symbol of cannabis culture.

The Allen County Sheriff's Office reminded drivers to always wear their seat belts and to never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
