One person killed, driver facing charges

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Johnnie Lee Jenkins Jr., who was driving a Toyota, collided head-on with a Kia driven by Joshua Rafael Martinez-Gonzalez at the intersection of NC Highway 87 and Owen Drive. Sadly, Martinez-Gonzalez died at the scene while Jenkins sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital for treatment.
Jenkins is now facing several charges including one felony count of death by motor vehicle, reckless driving, and felony DWI. The authorities have not yet released any further details about what led up to the accident or whether there were any other factors involved.
