A man has been arrested following a pursuit and search in Summit County, Ohio on Thursday evening. The suspect, identified as Ali Abdul Esaleh from Buffalo, New York was found unconscious at the bottom of a ravine in Brecksville around 6:45 pm. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), he was in possession of a firearm.

The incident began just before 3:00 pm when troopers from OSHP’s Medina Post responded to I-271 North near I-71 for reports of a truck driver who allegedly brandished a firearm towards a vehicle repair worker in Granger Township, Medina County. Troopers found the truck parked on the shoulder of northbound lanes but Esaleh disconnected the cab from the trailer and fled northbound.

OSHP attempted to pull over Esaleh's vehicle but failed and initiated pursuit on I-271 near state Route 94 in Medina County. The chase continued into Summit County where Richfield Township Police deployed stop sticks that caused his truck cab to hit a police cruiser before it went off-road and struck a guardrail near state Route 303.

Esaleh then exited his vehicle with his firearm and fled into nearby woods leading authorities on an extensive search operation involving SWAT officers and patrol officers from various agencies. Residents were asked by law enforcement officials to stay indoors during this time as they searched for him.

Esaleh was eventually found unconscious at the bottom of a ravine located within Boston Mills Road area by law enforcement officials around 6:45 pm. He is currently hospitalized under critical condition while facing charges including failure to comply, felonious assault as well as a weapons charge.

The incident remains under investigation.
