Man Killed in Wilmington After Being Hit by SUV While Lighting Fireworks

A tragic incident occurred in Wilmington, Los Angeles on Monday evening when a man was hit and killed by a driver while reportedly lighting fireworks near a shopping center parking lot. The incident took place around 9 p.m. along Fries Avenue, close to the Food for Less on West G Street.
According to investigators, the victim, identified as a 36-year-old man, was lighting fireworks in the street when he was struck by an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed. The impact caused him to be dragged under the vehicle for approximately 85 feet before being dislodged and subsequently hit by another vehicle leaving the parking lot. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the accident remained at the scene; however, the driver of the SUV fled from the scene. Authorities are currently searching for this individual who is now considered to be on-the-run.
Fortunately, no other injuries were reported as a result of this incident. At present, law enforcement has not released any information regarding either driver's identity or further details about their vehicles.
As investigations into this tragic event continue, authorities have yet to disclose any additional information or release details about potential motives behind why fireworks were being lit near such a busy area.
