Montclair State University Student Yusuf Bakmaz Dies In Ridgefield Crash

Yusuf Bakmaz died at the scene, his girlfriend was taken to the hospital in serious condition, occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.
A tragic car accident occurred in Ridgefield, New Jersey on June 24th, resulting in the death of a Montclair State University student. Yusuf Bakmaz and his girlfriend were driving north on Broad Avenue when they missed the split to Grand Avenue around midnight. According to Ridgefield Police Chief TJ Gallagher, "the teen's white 2002 Ford Mustang barreled over the island, clipped another vehicle and swerved directly into Karden." The restaurant had only opened in April at the site of Chan's Dragon Inn.
Bakmaz was pronounced dead at the scene while his girlfriend survived but sustained serious injuries and was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, occupants of the other vehicle involved did not sustain any injuries.
First responders from borough police and firefighters arrived promptly at the scene. The county sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence before removing Bakmaz's body which was then turned over to Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Ridgefield police are still investigating what happened leading up to this fatal crash by awaiting toxicology reports since witnesses told them that Bakmaz was speeding prior to losing control of his car.
Despite this tragedy, one responder noted that "all units worked extremely well making sure that the scene was kept intact and driver removed with dignity."
