Motorcyclist Killed in Crash with Car in Arkansas City

Investigators are currently examining whether excessive speed played a role in a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist and a car north of Arkansas City on Thursday night. The incident occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 77 and Summit Street, shortly after 8 p.m.
According to Sheriff David Falletti, Chase Roberts, a 20-year-old resident of Arkansas City, was riding his 2023 Kawasaki ZH2 motorcycle heading north on Summit Street. At the same time, a car was exiting U.S. Highway 77 with intentions to make a left turn onto Summit Street.
Eyewitnesses reported that the car came to a complete stop at the stop sign before proceeding across the northbound lanes of Summit Street towards the southbound lanes. Simultaneously, witnesses observed the motorcyclist changing lanes and rapidly accelerating. They also claimed that he appeared to be exceeding the speed limit.
The collision between the motorcycle and car resulted in Roberts being thrown from his bike while it burst into flames upon impact. Tragically, Roberts succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
As investigators continue their examination into this devastating accident, they will focus on determining if speeding contributed significantly to this tragic outcome.
