Two firefighters among three hospitalized after multi-vehicle accident in Gaston County

On Wednesday morning, a multi-vehicle accident involving a fire truck occurred near the intersection of NC 16 and Horseshoe Bend Beach Road in northeastern Gaston County. According to Lucia Riverbend Fire Department Chief David Toomey, two firefighters were among the three people hospitalized following the incident.
The firefighters were responding to an emergency call with their lights and siren on when they were struck by another vehicle. The identities of those involved have not been released, and there is no information yet regarding the extent of their injuries.
Lucia Riverbend Fire Department Chief David stated that updates will be provided as more details become available. Meanwhile, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident.
