Man, Unborn Child, and Dog Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Sutter County

A tragic multi-vehicle crash in Sutter County, California claimed the lives of a man, an unborn child, and a dog on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Highway 20 near the Wadsworth Canal Bridge.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident report, a 30-year-old man was driving a Nissan Versa eastbound with a pregnant woman in the passenger seat and a dog in the back seat. Simultaneously, a woman was driving westbound in a Chevy Tahoe near the bridge while being followed by another driver operating a Ford F-150 hauling a dump trailer.
The CHP investigation revealed that the driver of the Nissan drifted across double yellow lines into oncoming traffic, colliding with the Tahoe in the westbound lane. Subsequently, the Ford collided with the rear of the Tahoe.
Emergency responders had to extricate both occupants from inside their heavily damaged vehicle. The pregnant passenger was rushed to Adventist Health Rideout but tragically her unborn child did not survive. Meanwhile, medical personnel airlifted the driver of Nissan to Sutter Roseville Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later on. Additionally, sadly, their dog also passed away due to its injuries at Northpointe Animal Hospital.
Fortunately, both drivers involved in this devastating accident escaped major harm; only minor injuries were reported for Chevy's driver while no injuries were sustained by those traveling in Ford's truck.
Authorities have ruled out alcohol as contributing factor behind this collision and are urging anyone who witnessed it or has any information related to call CHP investigators at 530-645-6200.
