A road in Cooper Township, Michigan was closed all day on Monday due to a propane tanker truck accident. The incident occurred when the truck rolled over, causing the propane to leak. According to Ross-Augusta Fire Department, the crash happened at around 10:45 a.m on Riverview Drive between E.C Avenue and E.B Avenue.
The Battle Creek Fire Department took command of the hazmat response and stated that it was caused by a two-car crash. The firefighters' union shared on Facebook that "the truck was actively leaking" and carrying 1,600 gallons of liquid propane.
As a result of this accident, Riverview Drive had to be closed while BCFD hazmat teams used a process called "flaring" - burning away the propane by emptying the tanker. The Battle Creek Fire Department's crews were present for more than 13 hours.
