Pursuit Suspect Dies After Driving Off Cliff in Azusa

A pursuit suspect tragically lost their life on Thursday afternoon after driving off a cliff while evading law enforcement in Azusa. The incident took place in the Angeles Forest, located in the hills above Azusa near Morris Reservoir.
The sequence of events began when the Azusa police received a call for a welfare check at an undisclosed location. However, this seemingly routine check quickly escalated into a short pursuit. According to authorities, the driver of the vehicle being pursued veered off a cliff in an area close to Highway 39 and Glendora Mountain Road.
Upon receiving news of the accident, emergency responders from both the Los Angeles County Fire Department Search and Rescue team and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Mountain Rescue Team were immediately dispatched to assist with rescue efforts.
Initially, emergency crews worked diligently to determine whether or not the driver had survived; however, it became apparent that the driver had passed away. Consequently, search operations transitioned into body recovery mode.
As a result of this tragic incident, Highway 39 was closed starting from its information booth situated near where the crash occurred. On the other hand, Glendora Mountain Road remained open throughout these proceedings according to statements made by Azusa police.
This unfortunate event serves as another reminder of how high-speed pursuits can lead to devastating consequences for all parties involved. Authorities continue their investigation into what prompted this pursuit and will release further details as they become available.
