Road Rage Incident Turns Deadly on Upper East Side: 54-year-old Man Killed

A case of road rage escalated into a tragic incident resulting in death on Wednesday afternoon in Manhattan's Upper East Side. According to the police, the altercation began as a minor traffic accident involving a Chevrolet pickup truck and a Volkswagen Jetta near 119 East 60th Street at around 4 p.m.
According to reports, the pickup truck driver exited his vehicle, walked up to the Jetta and slashed two of the Jetta's tires. The driver of the Jetta then accelerated as the pickup truck driver stood in front of the Jetta.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that after slashing two tires of the Jetta with a knife, which belonged to a 54-year-old man driving the pickup truck; he walked around towards other tires when suddenly he was struck by the accelerating Jetta driven by a 26-year-old man. The impact caused him to crash into a nearby café.
Onlookers were horrified as firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and performed CPR while rushing him to an awaiting ambulance. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain as it was too late for medical intervention. The man with the knife was pronounced dead upon arrival at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Meanwhile, authorities took custody of the Jetta's driver for questioning but have not disclosed any charges against him yet. He claimed self-defense during his interrogation with detectives.
The District Attorney's Office has already become involved in the case and will determine whether or not charges will be filed against the Jetta's driver. New York City Mayor Eric Adams commented on the incident, saying, "They're going to conduct a thorough investigation to determine what exactly transpired here."
