Passenger Injured in Semi Truck Crash on S.R. 42

One person has been flown to Indianapolis for treatment of injuries following a crash involving an overturned semi truck near the county line.

The accident occurred on Monday morning on State Road 42, close to the border between Vigo and Clay counties. When first responders arrived at the scene, both the driver and passenger of the truck were already out of the vehicle. The passenger had suffered a severe cut on her arm and hand and was immediately airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital for medical attention.

According to statements from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, a 30-year-old individual from Mississippi, reported that they were traveling eastbound on S.R. 42 when another vehicle heading in their direction began drifting into their lane. To avoid a collision, the driver attempted to move over but ended up causing their flatbed trailer to go off-road. This sudden movement caused a shift in load balance which led to loss of control and ultimately resulted in the semi truck overturning.

As a result of this incident, large wooden planks were scattered across State Road 42. At present time (9:45 am), Vigo County Central Dispatch has confirmed that traffic is still being diverted due to ongoing cleanup operations at the site of the crash. Motorists are advised to find alternate routes until further notice.

Deputies investigating this accident have determined that neither drugs nor alcohol played any role in causing it; therefore no citations have been issued thus far.
