Semi-Truck Driver Hospitalized After Crash in Polkton Township

Driver of second truck hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, driver of jackknifed truck sustained minor injuries.
semi-truck driver was rushed to the hospital following a collision with another truck that had jackknifed on Interstate 96 near Coopersville. The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway, just east of 68th Avenue in Polkton Township, Michigan.
According to authorities from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, the initial cause of the jackknife was due to locked brakes on the first semi-truck involved. Unable to avoid a crash, a second semi-truck collided with the jackknifed vehicle. While investigations are still ongoing, preliminary findings suggest that mechanical issues were responsible for locking up the brakes.
The driver of the second truck, identified as a 57-year-old man from Ontario, Canada, sustained injuries during the collision but they are not believed to be life-threatening. He was promptly transported to receive medical treatment. Meanwhile, emergency responders treated minor injuries sustained by the driver of the jackknifed truck—a 34-year-old man from Otsego—at the scene.
