Smithfield man Gerald Perri killed in single-car crash in Norridgewock

Perri was ejected from his car and died at the scene.
A Smithfield man died in a single-car crash that occurred in Norridgewock early Saturday morning. The victim was identified as Gerald Perri, 54 years old.
According to Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Michael Mitchell, the incident happened at around 3:14 a.m. when Perri was driving north on Mechanic St. He veered off to the side of the right side of the road and crashed into a parked car in someone's driveway.
Perri was ejected from his car and died at the scene. The cause of the accident is still under investigation; however, speed may have been a contributing factor. It was also reported that Perri wasn't wearing his seatbelt during the time of impact.
The authorities are urging everyone to always wear their seatbelts while driving as it can save lives during accidents like this one.
