One dead, one critically injured
Michigan Teenager Killed and 20-Year-Old Critically Injured in a Crash near Paw Paw
Authorities reported that a teenager was killed, and a 20-year-old was critically injured in an accident near Paw Paw. The crash occurred on Tuesday at around 6:40 p.m. on eastbound I-94 near the M-51 overpass in Paw Paw Township.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers were already investigating a two-car crash when the deadly incident happened. A semi-truck had stopped in the roadway due to the prior collision when it was rear-ended by a Jeep Liberty.
The passenger of the Jeep Liberty, identified as a 19-year-old Mattawan woman, died instantly at the scene while her name has not been released yet. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, who is from Benton Harbor and aged 20 years old, sustained critical injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The names of both victims have not been disclosed pending notification of their families. Fortunately, no one else got hurt during this tragic event as per MSP reports.
It remains unclear why traffic slowed down or stopped because authorities stated that traffic had backed up due to an earlier accident before this fatal crash took place. Investigations are still ongoing into what caused this unfortunate incident to occur.
