Two Killed in Head-On Crash on I-55 in Wilmington

Two deaths, multiple injuries
Two individuals tragically lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision on Tuesday night, according to the Illinois State Police. The incident took place around 10:36 p.m. near milepost 238 on I-55 in Wilmington.
Reports indicate that a Ford F-150 was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes near milepost 238 when it collided head-on with a GMC Yukon. Following the initial impact, a semi-trailer also struck the Yukon.
Tragically, both the driver and a passenger inside the Yukon were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Additionally, three children who were also passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Ford F-150 was likewise taken to a hospital to receive medical attention for their injuries.
To ensure public safety and facilitate investigations, authorities temporarily closed southbound I-55 between River Road and Route 113. However, as of early Wednesday morning, this section has been reopened for regular traffic flow.
