Two People Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Hartford Township
On Friday night, a multi-vehicle crash occurred in Hartford Township resulting in the death of two individuals. Deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Red Arrow Highway near 60th Street after receiving reports of a crash at around 11:15 p.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, responding deputies found a vehicle on fire that had hit a tree with one person inside and two motorcycles with injured riders. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 39-year-old man from Hartford who was pulled out by authorities but died at the scene despite life-saving measures being attempted.
One of the motorcyclists involved in the accident, identified as a 30-year-old Lawrence man, passed away later at the hospital due to injuries sustained during the collision. The other motorcyclist was also taken to hospital for treatment but is expected to survive.
Initial investigations suggest that all three vehicles were heading west on Red Arrow Highway when suddenly; they collided with each other. The car hit both motorcycles before crashing into a tree. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors contributing towards this tragic incident.
Red Arrow Highway remained closed for approximately five hours while crews investigated and cleared up debris from the accident site before reopening it again. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact either Crime Stoppers or Silent Observer immediately.
The investigation into this fatal crash remains ongoing as authorities work tirelessly towards finding answers regarding what led up to such an unfortunate event taking place on our roads once again.
