Two sisters killed, Uber driver and male passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries
A tragic accident in the Westmont area of Los Angeles County has left a family devastated after two sisters were killed while riding in an Uber over the weekend. The crash took place at around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Century Boulevard.
Kimberly Izquierdo, 27, Veronica Amezola, 23, and their childhood friend Juvelyn Arroyo, 23, had attended a concert in South Los Angeles and were leaving when another driver ran a red light and collided with their rideshare vehicle.
Kimberly had recently graduated from nursing school and was embarking on her career journey in the medical field. Amezola was passionate about environmental science and had recently secured a job with an Orange County animal shelter.
The suspect responsible for the crash has been identified as Gregory Black, aged 31. Police have stated that he will face vehicular manslaughter charges. After colliding with the victims' vehicle, Black's car spun out of control before coming to rest on the center median. He was taken to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition under arrest.
Fortunately, both the Uber driver and male passenger who were also present sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
In order to help cover funeral expenses for Kimberly Izquierdo and Veronica Amezola, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up. Additionally, a separate fundraiser has been established for Juvelyn Arroyo.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the devastating consequences that can result from reckless behavior on the road.
