Wadsworth Middle Schooler James Kennedy Killed in Bicycle Crash

The bicyclist, 13-year-old James Kennedy, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries in the crash.
A 13-year-old student at Wadsworth Middle School was killed in a crash while riding his bicycle on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred on Silvercreek Road, near Longbrook Drive, in Wadsworth, Ohio.
According to the Wadsworth Police Department, they received a call about a crash involving a bike and a van at around 2:30 p.m. The bicyclist, identified as James Kennedy, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Wadsworth City School District later confirmed that Kennedy was a 7th grader at Wadsworth Middle School.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. A preliminary report from OSHP suggests that the bicyclist did not stop at the stop sign. No charges have been filed.
Wadsworth Police Chief Dan Chafin expressed his condolences to Kennedy's family, saying, "I can't say enough that our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers go out to his family. I can't imagine as a parent myself getting the news on a Friday afternoon that you've lost your son or daughter. That really is tragic and we really do feel for that family."
The Wadsworth City Schools also released a statement expressing their grief over the loss of Kennedy. "We are heartbroken to announce the death of James Kennedy, one of our students at Wadsworth Middle School. We received notice that he died in a tragic accident. The family is requesting privacy during this difficult time. Our Wadsworth Crisis Response Team will have trained crisis counselors available to meet with students and staff, beginning tonight from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wadsworth Middle School, located in the Media Center."
There were no other injuries reported in the crash.
