Woman in her 70s killed after bags of cement fall from truck on I-805 offramp in Clairemont

A tragic incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Clairemont, San Diego, where a woman lost her life after bags of cement fell from an overturned truck. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident took place around 1 p.m when a Chevrolet pick-up truck was traveling from the southbound side of Interstate 805 onto the eastbound state Route 52 ramp at approximately 60 miles per hour.
As the driver continued onto the ramp, he felt his load shift and began to lose control of the vehicle causing it to overturn. The bags spilled onto the roadway with several falling from the ramp onto SR-52 eastbound lanes below. One or two bags directly hit a black Mercedes that was traveling in lane No.2 on SR-52.
The passenger in Mercedes, described as a woman in her seventies, suffered severe injuries due to impact and died on scene despite medical personnel's efforts. The driver of Mercedes pulled over safely after being hit by cement bags while both drivers remained unharmed.
CHP confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not involved in this collision; however, they are still investigating its exact cause and sequence of events leading up to it.
The I-805 southbound transition road towards SR-52 eastbound was closed for about two hours for CHP officers' investigation purposes. A Sig Alert was also issued for southbound I-805 lanes around 2:54 p.m., but all closures have since been lifted.
