Baton Rouge man causes multi-vehicle accident, steals truck, and is charged with multiple offenses

Salvador Buitrago was charged with four counts of hit and run, theft of a motor vehicle, reckless operation of a vehicle, and possession of a Schedule 2 Controlled Dangerous Substance.
A man from Baton Rouge, Louisiana caused a commotion on Friday night after hitting three vehicles and stealing one of them. According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, Salvador Buitrago was driving his Ford F-150 when he hit multiple cars at the intersection of Burbank Drive and Bluebonnet Boulevard around 8:43 p.m.
The incident occurred while traffic was stopped at a red light. Buitrago reportedly side-swiped a Toyota 4Runner before striking a Dodge Ram that ended up rear-ending a Toyota Corolla. He then rear-ended a Chevrolet Silverado.
As the drivers involved in the accident pulled over to assess what had happened, Buitrago got out of his vehicle and approached the driver of the Silverado. Deputies say he ordered him to "Drive" repeatedly before getting into the truck himself and taking off.
Deputies started patrolling for the missing truck shortly after this incident occurred. They found it crashed into support wire for power lines with Buitrago sitting in its back seat with an abrasion on his head.
Authorities reported that they believed he was suffering from mental health issues during this time. They took him to hospital for treatment where deputies also discovered unlabeled amphetamines in his possession without any valid prescription or pill bottle.
Buitrago has been charged with four counts of hit-and-run, theft of motor vehicle, reckless operation of vehicle as well as possession of Schedule 2 Controlled Dangerous Substance according to authorities' reports.
